alt

First Lady Michelle Obama paired up with the Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt and the National Design Museum to give kudos to the best in the nation’s visionary minds Friday in the East Room of the White House.

At least one designer made a huge impression on Michelle.

She dubbed Lifetime Achievement winner Richard Saul Wurman as “quite dashing and sassy” upon meeting him. Richard is responsible for creating the TED technology conferences, and his latest project, "19.20.21," is a massive undertaking of studying 19 cities across the world for their population impact.

Other winners included innovators in architecture, technology and fashion. See the full list of winners here.
