Money.

It’s kind of important for presidential candidates -- not just in how much they raise in campaign contributions, pay in taxes, or earn from investments ... but, how much they give away.

Case in point: President Obama and the First Lady recently released their 2011 tax returns, which means we get a nice peek into whom the Obamas gave to and how much.

The First Family gave $172,130 to 39 organizations and charities (that’s just a little less than a quarter of their income). But, a majority of the cash, $117,130 went to one group: Fisher House Foundation, which gives families of sick and wounded veterans a place to stay near their love one’s hospital. POTUS even gave all the proceeds of his children’s book to Fisher House’s scholarship program.

After that, the next-biggest donations were $5,000 each to Boys & Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, United Negro College Fund and Sidwell Friends School (which is the Obama girls’ school). All other groups received contributions of $1,000 or less and include local charities in both Washington, D.C., and Chicago.

Great job, Obamas -- talk about "spreading the wealth around!"
