'Mind Control' Tech Helps Victims Of Paralysis Move Things By Thinking

roboarm 2012 05 18

Victims of paralysis can rejoice, thanks to new mind-control robotic technology.

The woman pictured above used only her thoughts to make that robotic arm pick up the bottle so that she could take a sip. (Watch video, below.)

How does it work? A tiny sensor is implanted into the brains of the people using the robotic arms, and the sensors feel all of the little electrical currents in your brain that control commands, like the kind you use to move your own arms and legs. They then send that information to the arm and make it move.

Researchers hope that, as soon as the cost of this technology goes down, they'll be able to make it available for widespread usage.
