To Cast Or Not To Cast?: Teenaged Stars In Iconic Roles [MOVIES]

kristen-012-06-06

We know they have to grow up sometime, but we’re always a little skeptical when a former tweenie star takes on a serious movie role.

Here is the latest slew of nerve-racking castings:

  • ">Stewart attempted to portray another icon, Joan Jett, once before to lukewarm reviews, and the initial response to On the Road is that the movie doesn’t capture the same passionate spirit Kerouac had when he wrote the book. Drugs, nudity and explicit sex make this a definite “adult” role.

  • Lindsay Lohan as Liz Taylor in "Liz & Dick" (on Lifetime): Oh, LiLo. Where to begin? In many ways, it’s perfect. Troubled starlet channels deceased troubled starlet. But Lindz definitely has a spotty track record when it comes to her films, and while there have been some really good photos, there have also been some really not-so-good ones. Did we mention it’s a Lifetime movie?

  • Zac Efron in "This is Where I Leave You": Dysfunctional family movies are either the stories of our lives or the world’s biggest cliché, so one should always pick his projects carefully. The "High School Musical" heartthrob is reportedly cast in Jonathan Tropper’s acclaimed darkly funny novel about a non-traditional Jewish family forced to reunite and sit shiva together after the death of their father. Death, love, divorce. This one has some meat on it. Better hit the theatrical weights, Zac!

Please note that we did not include Dakota Fanning -- because that girl’s been doin’ WORK since day one!
