Grammy Award-Winner John Mayer rocked Capitol Hill last night during a surprise performance with Legendary Blues Guitarist Buddy Guy -- at the "11th Annual Grammys On The Hill Awards" ceremony at the Liason Hotel.
John was honored not only for his work as a musician, but also for his work with veterans returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. During his acceptance speech, John spoke about the yellow ribbons that many Americans display to show their support for the troops.
"The yellow ribbons we all display should be thought of as I.O.U.'s to the men and women in service. It's high time that we make good on those promises."
Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.) was also honored at the event, which featured several special guests, including Recording Academy Chair Emeritus and five-time GRAMMY Winner Jimmy Jam; Rapper Paul Wall; Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow; songwriter Monty Powell (Lady Antebellum, Martina McBride and Keith Urban); Folk/Rock Artist Donovan; Six-Time GRAMMY Winner Buddy Guy; Cheap Trick Guitarist Rick Nielsen; and Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius. These guests -- and many politicos (think Sen. Orrin Hatch) -- helped to recognize Howard and John's achievements.
Grammys On The Hill honors politicians and members of the music industry that work to protect the rights of artists, producers, songwriters, and other members of the music community.
